We use the largest expansion screw that will fit as deeply into the palatal vault as possible. If you'd prefer a different screw from another manufacturer, just let us know— we probably carry it.
You have several options for banding. To ensure the best end result, you should send us a model with the bands you've fitted/sized to your patient's teeth and properly placed on the model. Please thoroughly inspect this banded model for accurate band placement before you send it to us.
The second best option is to send us the bands, which you've already fitted/sized to the patient, for us to seat on the model in our lab. Put the bands in properly labelled little baggies and include them with the prescription and model.
The final option, whereby we band your model with our bands, should only be used as a last resort because its accuracy is far inferior to the first two choices. It creates a much greater chance for improper and/or uncomfortable fit for your patient. Obviously, a band fit to a plaster model is no substitution for a band fit to your patient's tooth.
So use minimal wax when securing your bands. Glue is unnecessary, very difficult to remove, and produces noxious fumes when we solder.
Make sure your bands are accurately placed, strong and wide enough for any soldered attachments, and not slipped or torn.
